AVID Synopsis

 

 

     AVID which stands for: Advancement Via Individual Determination, is the driving force of our instruction in the classrooms, here at Los Alisos.  Implementing AVID strategies into our lessons, school-wide is helping to ensure that our students are College-future ready. Last summer in 2021, approximately 7-10 teachers attended the AVID summer institute online to train using many AVID strategies in their respective subjects taught. This summer, in 2022 the AVID summer institute training is being offered in person in Anaheim CA., for our interested teachers to attend. AVID strategy training has been modeled by our AVID teachers at staff meetings, to allow all teachers to practice these newly developed skills that keep our teachers and students up-to-date with lessons that can be used in their own classrooms.

AVID & AVID Excel Supply List 

 

Dear Students and Parent(s) or Guardian(s), 

We are looking forward to a successful AVID & AVID Excel year! As one of the organizational tools of this program, your student’s binder will need a few important supplies. Some of these suggested items for success are listed below: 

• • Pencil pouch 
• • DURABLE PLASTIC subject dividers w/tabs (set of 8) 

 

with NO POCKETS 

• • 3-hole punch 
• • College-ruled lined paper throughout the year 
• • Post-it Notes (various sizes) 
• • Pencils 
• • Different colored pens (needed for note revision) 
• • Highlighter 
• • Eraser 

 

These supplies are in addition to the regular grade-level classroom supplies your child will need. If your child wants a different colored binder than the white binder provided by the school, he/she will need to have at least a 2-inch ring binder with a plastic pocket on the front to place the AVID binder cover sheet. If you should have any questions about these supplies or the AVID program requirements, please contact our AVID Site Coordinator, Ms. Jaques or Ms. Goodner in the school office.
